| Joni has been my sage since I first heard Court & Spark when I was in 6th grade. I played guitar in high school, college, and beyond. I broke one too many acoustic steel strings trying to find Joni's open tunings (which I love) and now I have a phobia about tuning musical instruments. No Roland VG-8 back then.
So I basically grew up with her music. And to this day she remains my favorite musician, with unique music and lyrics reflecting such clarity of vision, so prophetic and so disarming.

| Big Yellow Taxi was the first song I ever heard, and of course ecology-minded and fey I loved the "tree museum "and the laugh at the end. But the first I ever knew of Joni was an advert in 'Evergreen' magazine; the line drawing on the LADIES OF THE CANYON album...I was magnetically drawn to the girl with the long blonde hair. Forty years later that girl's
dignity, seriousness, honesty, artistry and the strange combination of vulnerable and tough still holds my attention. |

| I'm an artist and long-time Joni Mitchell fan; I first noticed her song-writing genius back in 1968 when I bought a 45 rpm of " Both Sides Now" recorded by Judy Collins. In the spring of 1970 I was hearing "Woodstock" for the first time by CSN and again noticed the writer. A few years later friends and I went to see Joni in New Haven CT in 1974 and that was one of the joys of my life. Also saw her perform at the anti-nuke protest in DC in 1979. Will always be a fan no matter what.

| I'm an L.A.-based photographer, writer & pianist/composer. I've been a J. M. fan from the first time I heard "I Had a King" on "underground" radio 40 yrs ago. Who was that? I'd never heard the name before. But the song; that voice! Bought Song to a Seagull, and never looked back. J.M. has inspired me as a composer (songs w/out words) and, yes, even more recently as a writer of plays and screenplays. We've met briefly twice. One day I hope to share that which she's inspired. Thank you.

| joni's mom and my mom were on the same bowling league in Macleod. We went to SAIT at the same time but didn't know each other although i remember her singing at parties. We share many of the same small town images, particularily of Fort Macleod. the Java Shop, a restaurant in Macleod, closed recently and i remembered Joni's song "They paved paradise..." i thought she would be interested and found this site.
as much as we don't like it, Joni, we'll always be from Macleod.
take care

| I am a 23 year old singer-songwriter in rural Alberta, and Joni Mitchell is the inspiration behind most of the music I play and/or write. I find that no matter what mood I am in, she has a song that compliments it in some way.......I like to think of her work as the soundtrack to my life. In fact, often her songs invoke more emotion in me than real life does, which just goes to show how powerful her lyrics and melodies are. |

| First met Joni's music in 1967.... Song to a Seagull I must be partial to Canadian artists, as I am also nuts for Jennifer Warnes.

| Been skulking around this and other Joni Mitchell sites for a while. Not a joiner normally, but interested in what's here and would like to contribute. Joni Mitchell's music has been in and out of my life for many years. Don't subscribe to the "she taught me to feel" idea entirely, but her music has helped me to understand what I feel many times. And it really is extraordinary music, both as music and what it can do for you. Don't want to be a Joni geek but happy to be a Joni music friend. |

| Been a long standing Joni fan. Joni's music had been around when I met my wife. A place called The Corkroom & Cellar, in the Philippines. Pizza, beer, & folk music nightly played by the local filipinos. A sailor & a waitress 1976. Little did they know marriage was in their future on 10/08/1978. We celebrate 30 yrs this 2008 and to this date when we hear Joni play we have to "Stop and smell the roses". Life is too short, A little bit of Joni or your fav folk artist, kick back & enjoy life. |

| In the 1960's and 70's, a group of people joined into the great Circle Game.
The musicians, students, and many more ,clung on the carousel and preserved their souls by wearing the anthems of the times.
I was one of those tendrils.
Joni's music created the backdrop that I could rest on..
Her anthems that followed me to this day are many--the elated , the mornful, the questioning, the magical. For that I am ever thankful--and for that I am joining this forum. Gracias :-)

| Back in the 80's my co-workers used to tease me about my obsession with Joni's music. One friend a cartoonist used to draw me in some of his cartoons with my security uniform on the job with my Joni Mitchell alblums under my arm. I later became a fan of CPR and did not know she was a pal of David Crosby until I read his Bio.

| I am Joni's biggest fan, sternest critic. She has lifted me to some of my greatest heights and disappointed me more often than I care to mention. When I bought Shine I was prepared to hate it, laugh at it, push it to the back of my collection; but it is her finest work since Mingus. Who would have thought it... It is because of Shine that I have registered with this discussion site. |

| I'm a singer-songwriter in NYC. Joni's music has been my life's soundtrack since I first heard "Blue" at 13. It's funny how I got turned on to her: I was reading an old Led Zeppelin interview while in the midst of my junior high Led Zep obsession, and Jimmy Page mentioned that Joni Mitchell brought tears to his eyes. I figured that if she was good enough for Pagey, she was good enough for me. I picked up a used copy of "Blue" in the local record emporium, and my life has never been the same...

| Hi there! My name is Karen, I am from Canada, and I am very excited about joining this discussion list. I live near Niagara Falls & am contemplating attending this years Jonifest. I was wondering if there is anyone from Southern Ontario that is going. I have been a Joni fan since 1972 when I borrowed BLUE from the public library! |

| Hi everyone, I'm new to The Gallery, but not to Joni's music. I've been listening to Joni since 1968 and I still can't get enough. I play her music in her tuning on my guitar and dulcimer. I never played the dulcimer til I heard her songs. In my neck of the woods its hard to find Joni fans, so I mostly play for family and friends and for myself. I'm looking forward to going to my first jonifest next year. Hope to meet people who feel about Joni's music the way I do.
